If you are the person who has to produce the assessment, file it, and be able to justify it later, these are built for you. If you already run a full safety management system, you probably don't need them.

What they don't do

Worth being direct about this, because plenty of tools in this space aren't.

They do not make you a competent person. They do not provide legal advice. They do not replace training, site knowledge or professional judgement, and they will not tell you your control measures are adequate. What they do is stop you missing steps, structure the assessment consistently, and give you a dated record at the end.

Common questions

Are these approved by the HSE?

No. The HSE does not approve, endorse or certify commercial risk assessment tools, and anyone claiming otherwise is misleading you. These are built to align with published HSE guidance and the relevant regulations, which is a different and more honest claim.

Do I need an internet connection?

Only to download the file. After that it runs completely offline, on any device, indefinitely.

Is there a subscription or renewal?

No. One payment and the file is yours. There is nothing to cancel and nothing that stops working if you walk away.

Can I use one tool across multiple sites?

Yes. There is no limit on how many assessments you complete with it.

What happens when the regulations change?

Updated versions are released when the underlying guidance changes materially. Files you already have keep working regardless, because nothing depends on a server staying online.

Will this satisfy an inspector?

The record it produces is a suitable and sufficient written assessment in format. Whether the content is adequate depends on the quality of your judgement and your knowledge of the site, which no tool can supply.
